Now that you've put together a rough draft of your personal story, it's time to "categorize" it to see where it fits into the broad framework of challenges facing individuals with developmental disabilities. Tying your story to an issue will help you focus on what specifically needs to be changed.
Life issues for individuals with developmental disabilities typically fall into one of four categories:
- Living
- Learning
- Working
- Participating
While more than one issue probably impacts you, it's critical to narrow your focus. Otherwise, you'll end up spreading your energies and resources too thin to be effective!
The following exercise will help you pick your issue.
