ReadingHow You'll Learn

As we move through time, you will learn how people with disabilities lived, learned and worked.

Throughout the course, you will be required to use outside sources as part of the curriculum, including Parallels in Time, an extensive overview of the history of disabilities. Because these sources contain important information that is not found elsewhere in this course, it is essential that you complete these outside assignments.

To help you put what you learn into perspective, several useful tools have been incorporated into the course.

The Historical Timeline will help put key events in the history of people with disabilities into context against other important events of the time period.

Legislation also has played an important role in establishing and protecting the rights of people with disabilities. You'll find it helpful to review the Key Legislation & Policies, events that took place during the time period being discussed in each module.

Also, you will learn from the experiences of people who played pivotal roles in igniting change over the years. Hopefully, the successes of these ChangeMakers will help you to better understand the connection between personal experiences and how they can be used as the impetus to change the world around you.
